Our first ‘summer’ Club Night happened yesterday evening at Holton Lee and it was great to see so many people (40), including a handful of youngsters that Jason did a coaching session with before the main event. Jon Brooke had organised an unusual format which involved a mass start and people flying off in 6 different directions to complete one of a series of looped courses. Those that chose the longest option had to complete 3 loops. This was really good fun, although there were a lot of bemused faces to begin with! But it worked brilliantly – and Dale ran in first, followed by Peter, James and Roger (19 seconds after James!). Jason came in 6th and Ian 9th. A big thanks to Jon for this great start to our Summer League series of club nights.

The next event in the Summer League, organised by WIM, is on Monday June 5th in Blandford. We are organising the following one on Monday, July 3rd in Littledown/Kings Park – although we haven’t found an Organiser (offers welcomed!)

Over the Bank Holiday weekend there were a couple of other events attended by WSX members: on Saturday afternoon there was the Amesbury Urban, organised by SARUM, which was a really well-planned and challenging event.

Top-ten results were:

James  – 6th on the Men’s Open; Peter – 2nd on Men’s Vets, Dale – 8th on Men’s Vets and Lyra – 2nd on Young Women.

On the Sunday, there was a tough event in Savernake Forest, organised by NWO. The so-called white runnable was often far from it and it was quite slow-going as a result. But it’s a lovely forest full of ancient oaks.

Top-ten results here were:

White- Eskarine 3rd (1st W10); Orange – Lyra 4th (1st W10); Light Green – Rebecca 2nd W40; Green – myself 4th W60; Blue – Jolyon 2nd M40 and Dave Buston (new member) – 8th M50; Brown – Rob 4th M55

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE!

Upcoming local events are here.
