Brrrrr…….
What a cold weekend for orienteering (or for anything else, for that matter!) But a few hardy individuals ventured out – some even as far as South Wales for the British Night Championships weekend. Peter Suba came a very consistent 5th on Brown at the Pembrey Forest daytime event and in M40 at the Night Championships themselves, on Merthyr Mawr. Well done, Peter.
A few of us travelled to Burnham Beeches/Egypt Woods on Sunday and it was a glorious day as the sun was shining and the woods were runnable – and not very wet! The Medlock girls did well again: Esk 4th on White and Lyra 9th on Light Green. Their dad, Jolyon came equal 10th on Brown. I was actually quite pleased with my run on Green, coming 20th out of 81. As I’m a W65 now, I ‘should’ be running Short Green courses, but at the moment my legs can still take the longer distances (just!) and I feel that I can be vaguely competitive. It was certainly a thoroughly enjoyable, though not error-free, run.
James has been working hard to get a team together for the Compass Sport Cup and has just about managed to do so – although we could always do with more. Although it’s a bit of a trek across to Somerset, these inter-club events are always good fun and very sociable.
At the upcoming SWOA (South West Orienteering Association) meeting, the new Director of British Orienteering will be attending – so if you have any burning issues you want me to raise with him, please let me know before March 6th. If you don’t know much about SWOA, here’s a link to their newly-refurbished website: http://sworienteeringassociation.co.uk/
